Takashima_b(Takashima 1 Intersection ⇒ Takashima Community Hall ⇒ Takashima Elementary School)

Start walking from Takashima 1 intersection with traffic lights.

Pass by a flower shop "Hasegawa", Takashima-Inari Shrine, and Takashima Post Office.

Pass by barber "Sasanami", go straight along the road to get to Takashima Community Hall.

If you want to enjoy a sea view, before you get to Takashima Community Hall,
find the sign on which "高台寺:Kodaiji Temple" is written on an electric pole, and turn right there.

If you have no difficulty with going up stairs, you can also visit Shorinji Temple on the left side of the road leading to Takashima Community Hall,
and get a view of part of Takashima Fishing Port from between the houses.

You can also visit Shorinji Temple without using the stairs.
Turn left when you see the sign of "正林寺:Shorinji Temple".

Keep on going up, past Takashima Community Hall a little, you will see the sea behind you.

Keep on going up the road, it becomes narrower and wider before Takashima Elementary School.

You will get to the gate of Takashima Elementary School in about 17 minutes after the start.

Ironai/Inaho/Minatomachi/Sakaimachi_f-1(Sapporo Legal Affairs Bureau Otaru Branch ⇒ Suitengu Shrine)

Start walking from near the building of Sapporo Legal Affairs Bureau Otaru Branch which is close to Otaru Port No.2 Pier.
The tall building with antenna tower behind it is Otaru Regional Joint Government Building.

Turn your back toward the sea, walk and cross a road, go through the most popular tourist area with museums and restaurants in stone warehouses along Otaru Canal.

Go over the Otaru Canal, cross a road, and go straight on Nichigin Street. You will see solid buildings stand along the street.

Turn left at the intersection by the Bank of Japan Otaru Museum.

Turn right when you meet Sushiya Street, middle of the street the Okobachi River runs.

Turn left by an Italian restaurant and go up the narrow slope.

The road curves a few times sharply, it isn't a dead end.
If you found a dead end, you might have taken the wrong slope from the Sushiya Street.

The road meets with a wide road in front of a tall residential building.

Turn right there.

Go straight through the next intersection, pass by Former Sakai Elementary School.

If you have time, you can visit an old folk house "Suhara-tei" which stands on the way to Suitengu Shrine.

This is the entrance of Suitengu Shrine. You will get here in 11 to 17 minutes after the start.

You can enjoy the overall view of Otaru Port from Suitengu Shrine.
In spring, you can also enjoy the beautiful Suitengu Shrine itself surrounded by cherry blossoms.

Funahamacho/Sakura_a(Higashi Otaru Beach ⇒ Higashi Otaru Community Hall)Stairs on the route

Start walking from Higashi Otaru Beach.

As railroad tracks run behind the beach, to get to the mountain side,
go up to the road which goes over the railroad tracks and leads to National Route 5.

There are no crosswalk on National Route 5 around, only vehicles can go to the mountain side of National Route 5.
To get to the mountain side on foot, turn left and go down the sideway before the intersection with National Route 5, use the underpass of National Route 5.

Turn right and go through the underpass to cross National Route 5.

Go up the stairs and exit this underpass.

Turn left at the intersection next to the exit of the underpass.

Cross a road at the next crosswalk, and go up the road by "長昌寺:Tyoshoji Temple”.

Turn left at the next corner.

You will get to Higashi Otaru Community Hall in 16 to 17 minutes after the start.

If you have time, go up the path in the municipal cemetery next to the Higashi Otaru Community Hall. You will see the sea.

There is another way to get to the Higashi Otaru Community Hall with using another underpass.
Pass by the first underpass, go ahead until you find the Kumausu River.

Turn right and walk the path along the Kumausu River.

Go through the underpass.

Turn right at the next corner, cross the road, and go up the slope in front of Sakura Post Office.
You will get to Higashi Otaru Community Hall in about 17 minutes after the start.

Zenibako_c(Zenibako Station ⇒ Zenibako Elementary School)

Start walking from in front of Zenibako Station.

Walk with the sea on your left. Turn right at the intersection by Seven-Eleven(a convenience store).

You will meet a railroad crossing soon.

Cross the railroad tracks, turn right, and go up the slope.
Enter the road on the right side of the torii gate and walk seeing the railroad tracks.

Turn left at the corner by Ryuganji Temple, walk a little, and look back,
you will see the sea from the halfway of the slope.

Go along the road, and go straight through the next intersection.

You will get to National Route 5, in front of Zenibako Elementary School, in 18 to 20 minutes after the start.

If you have time, turn right at the next corner after passing by the Ryuganji Temple, you will enjoy a good sea view like this.

There is another way to get to National Route 5.
Go straight after crossing the railroad tracks, turn right at the corner by an electrical store "Cosmos Member's Store Zenibako".

Go the left way at the next crossroad.

After passing by a kindergarten, you will meet National Route 5.

You will get to National Route 5, in front of Zenibako Elementary School, in 15 to 18 minutes after the start.

Zenibako Police Box is located next to the elementary school.
